Proper deadlifting

Check this out:

Nasty, bloody mess, no? As gross as it may look, keeping the bar in contact with your body is a great sign of whether or not you are dead lifting properly. This was brought to my attention yesterday, when my dear wife pointed out that my dead lift form was suffering from the “Stripper” dead lift fault, in which the lifter raises the hips before the shoulders. Once my form was corrected, I realized that I had not been keeping the bar in contact with my shins. That mental note alone got me back into proper form.

Please note, if you’re not that into blood and guts, a good pair of soccer socks which cover the shins is a fine remedy for the grotesquery in the photo above. Go team!

  1. Everything hurts. My butt, lower back (should that hurt?), chest, arms, even my ears. Ok, my ears don't really hurt but you get the picture. I LOVE DEADLIFTING. Actually I love any exercise that makes me this sore. I know it's working the wimpiness right out of me.
